Matthew Gabin Joins Arbol as Chief Legal Officer and Deputy Chief Operating Officer

November 22, 2022

Arbol Inc. (Arbol), a global climate risk solutions platform, today announced that Matthew Gabin has joined the company as Chief Legal Officer and Deputy Chief Operating Officer. Gabin, a veteran lawyer with deep experience in parametric (re)insurance, weather risk transfer, and insurance-linked securities (ILS), joins Arbol from Swiss Re, where he counseled their weather risk and commodity trading businesses.

Gabin will take over and further build out the company’s legal and compliance team. He will also help oversee Arbol’s operational functions as it continues to expand globally.

“We are excited to welcome a colleague who has such relevant experience advising some of the world’s leading reinsurers on parametric risk transfer, weather risk and other areas so close to our core business,” said Sid Jha, founder and CEO of Arbol. “As we continue to grow and expand our business into new verticals and markets, Matthew and his very specific expertise will be critical to our success.”

Prior to Swiss Re, Gabin counseled (re)insurers, investment firms and corporates at Mayer Brown LLP. He also spent nearly a decade providing legal and operational advice on alternative risk transfer to Allianz Risk Transfer (part of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty).

“Parametric insurance is an indispensable tool for boosting resilience and closing the protection gap, and I’m thrilled to join a team that is driving innovation in the space.” said Gabin. “Arbol has achieved a lot in a short period of time and is positioning itself as a leader in parametric insurance and climate risk solutions for businesses globally. I look forward to putting my skills to work to help Arbol reinvent the way the world manages climate risk.”

About Arbol

Arbol is a global climate risk coverage platform and FinTech company offering full-service solutions for any business looking to analyze, manage and transfer climate risk. Arbol’s products offer parametric coverage which pays out based on objective data triggers rather than subjective assessment of loss. Arbol’s key differentiator versus traditional InsureTech or climate analytics platforms is the complete ecosystem it has built to address climate risk. This ecosystem includes a massive climate data infrastructure, scalable product development, automated, instant pricing using an artificial intelligence underwriter, blockchain-powered operational efficiencies, and non-traditional risk capacity bringing capital from non-insurance sources. By combining all these factors, Arbol brings scale, transparency, and efficiency to parametric coverage in stark contrast to the oligopoly of reinsurers that currently dominate the climate risk insurance space.
